Applications for the Youth Camp Scholarships are now being accepted by the Missouri Birding Society. Go to the MBS website to apply.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Sunday, June 1, 2025
After being informed in mid-November that ABA will not be conducting Camp Colorado or Camp Delaware Bay in 2025, the MBS Youth Scholarship Committee was unable to find opportunities to sponsor young birders to attend a camp with a similar focus on birds/birding within the authorized budget range and with safe, reasonable travel arrangements for unaccompanied teens.
For the 2025 camp season, MBS is offering to award $1,000 each for up to four young birders to offset the cost of attending a camp with some component of a camp session involving birds. To be eligible, the young birder must:
1. Be a resident of Missouri, age 13-18
2. Be accepted at a camp with birds/birding as a component of the camp session
3. Agree to write a short essay/article about the camp experience for the MBS quarterly, The Bluebird, to be submitted by October 1, 2025
To apply for the $1,000 assistance, the camper must send proof of acceptance to the camp and a description of the camp session activities to two Youth Scholarship Committee members prior to June 1, 2025 at: 1edgewade.gmail.com and lottie.bushmann.gmail.com.
The full committee will review the application and notify the applicant of the decision of the award within 30 days of receipt of the application. The $1,000 will be sent directly to the camp to apply to the camp fee.
The Youth Scholarship Committee expects to return to sponsoring two full camp tuition opportunities in 2026 through the full application and recommendation process used in the past.
